Dark Crimson Underwing
B&F 2455 RES 72.081
DistributionPhenologyReporting RatePhotos
A Red Data Book species and rare migrant. This moth was rediscovered as breeding in Kent after larval finds in 2019 and further surveying revealed the moth's presence in localised ancient oak woodland. Similar to Red Underwing and Light Crimson Underwing, but there are notable differences on the fore and hindwings.
Grade 2 — adults can be confused with other species, so good quality photographs or possibly a specimen will be required if the recorder is not familiar with the species.
