Species Account

Males can be easily distinguished from both sexes of E. gentianaeana and E. oblongana by their white hindwings. Both sexes can be separated from E. gentianaeana by the narrower area of whitish ground colour beyond the median fascia.

Can be determined by hindwing colour, otherwise dissection required.

E. marginana - White with a narrow dark border.

E. gentianaeana - Uniformly dark.

E. oblongana - Dark, pale towards the base.

Some specimens, especially females, may require dissection.

Record Verification

Grade 2 adults can be confused with other species, so good quality photographs or possibly a specimen will be required if the recorder is not familiar with the species.
